Judge delays Zimmerman request for delay on Trayvon Martin birthday
Trial set for June 10.
A judge has denied George Zimmerman's request to delay his trial further, on Trayvon Martin's birthday. Lawyers had requested more time to prepare for the trials set for June 10.
A judge has ruled that Zimmerman will have his day in court on June 10.
The judge, Debra S. Nelson, denied a defense request to delay the trial past June 10, so they could have more time to prepare. The defense said they would like time to depose additional prosecution witnesses.
The case has ignited passions around the country and has racial overtones. On Feb. 26 of last year, Zimmerman, a self-proclaimed neighborhood watch captain, confronted Martin who was walking through his neighborhood.
Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him while a 911 call placed by Martin suggests the young man tried to get away from Zimmerman before fighting with him.
In the fight, Zimmerman fatally shot Martin with a pistol he was carrying.
Trayvon Martin's supporters claim the killing was racially motivated.
The case will go to trial as planned on June 10.

Here is a link to a report of Martin making a 911 call:

There are early reports Martin called 911 but as if this point, no actual evidence I've seen. If he did, prosecutors would want to keep that quiet so Omara cannot claim public influence against GZ.
Cathy S. is right on. this article should be pulled. As a parent who lives in FL, this is a racially charged case. Rev. Al and Jesse Jackson come here to stur up the crowd. Then the media blames a white boy and then President Obama weighs in. Then the news media alters audio and vidio tapes. This is a total shame for our country. As a citizen of this state, too many want to start a race war. I don't think Christ would approve of the way this is being handled.
Is the writer privy to something the rest of us do not know?
"The case has ignited passions around the country and has racial overtones." While it's true that the case has ignited passions, what facts speak to it having racial overtones, other than the ones implied by those who want to make it about race?
"Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him while a 911 call placed by Martin suggests the young man tried to get away from Zimmerman before fighting with him." I thought I'd heard and read everything about this case, but this was news to me. I didn't know Martin had called 911. Was the call released? When? Where might I find it to listen for myself? The only 911 calls I ever heard was Zimmermans, and one by a neighbor.
"Trayvon Martin's supporters claim the killing was racially motivated." That they believe that is true enough. But since there hasn't been a trial yet, there are detractors and supporters on both sides; opinion does not constitute truth.
