County commissioners to crack down on anti-fracking demonstrators - Denver

Commisioners accuse protestors of creating a bullying atmosphere.

Boulder County commissioners have announced they will prosecute any  anti-fracking demonstrators who disrupt meetings. This comes after demonstrators disrupted an earlier meeting.

Fracking is a controversial practice across the nation as the public blames it for a variety of issues.

DENVER, CO (Catholic Online) - The Commissioners issued a statement on Wednesday promising to prosecute anyone who disrupted their meetings. Commissioners say the demonstrators created a "bullying atmosphere" and are intimidating witnesses.

They are also asking for more security in advance of further meetings.

Fracking is the practice of blasting sand, water, and chemicals deep into the ground to produce cracks in the rock. Those cracks release natural gas and oil.

Opponents of the practice say that it contaminates groundwater and possibly causes earthquakes.

Defenders of the practice say the claims are absurd because fracking occurs well beneath the water table.
